Berlinale bought 330,000 tickets

Berlin (dpa) – The Berlin International Film Festival sold around 330,000 tickets this year, revealing strong interest from both the film industry and the wider public, the organizers of the 68th edition of the event said in the German capital on Monday.

The figure was little different from last year, when 334,000 tickets were sold at the Berlinale, as the festival is known in German. Next year’s festival has been set down for February 7-17.

The European Film Market, a trade fair conducted in conjunction with the festival, had a record year, with 10,000 visitors from 112 countries.

“Touch Me Not,” the winner of the Golden Bear – the top prize – is scheduled for general release later this year, although no final date has yet been set, according to the public relations agency handling the Romanian film.

Director Adina Pintilie investigates sexuality in the film, receiving the Golden Bear on Saturday. The German national daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung called the decision “courageous and correct,” while the film critic for Britain’s Guardian termed it “embarrassingly awful.”
