2006-8-25 The Rapid Vehicle Motor Company

The Rapid Vehicle Motor Company
 by: Frank Hague

The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was started in 1902 by Max Grabowski.

It was the manufacturer of some of the earliest trucks and was purchased in 1909 by GM. In 1912 the name GMC was first used at the New York Auto Show and in 1996 the suffix Truck was dropped.

What most people don't know is that GMC also makes cars.

In 1902 Max Grabowski founded a company called the "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed some of the earliest commercial trucks ever designed. In 1909 the company was bought by General Motors to form the basis of the General Motors Truck Company, from which GMC Truck was made. In 1912 the name "GMC Truck" was first shown at the New York Auto Show. In 1996 GM dropped the word 'truck' from the GMC Truck name, thus creating the GMC name as we know it today. There never was a Grabowski Motor Company or a Grabowski Motor Corp.

They now make personal automobiles, as well as pickup truck and bus engines.

General Motors Corporation NYSE: GM, also known as GM, is a United States-based automobile maker with worldwide operations and brands including Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo, GMC, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saturn, Saab, and Vauxhall Chevrolet and GMC divisions produce trucks, as well as passenger vehicles. Other brands include ACDelco, Allison Transmission, and General Motors Electro-Motive Division that produces diesel-electric locomotives. GM also has stakes in Isuzu, Subaru, and Suzuki in Japan and a joint venture with AutoVAZ (Lada) in Russia. In December 2003, it acquired Delta in South Africa, in which it had taken a 45 percent stake in 1997, and which is now a fully-owned subsidiary, General Motors South Africa.

GM's headquarters are in the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan.

General Motors is the world's largest vehicle manufacturer and employs over 340,000 people. In 2001, GM sold 8.5 million vehicles through all its branches. In 2002, GM sold 15 percent of all cars and trucks in the world. They also owned Electronic Data Systems from 1984 to 1996 which is a former Ross Perot company and, prior to selling it to News Corporation, DirecTV. GM owned Frigidaire from 1918 to 1979.

The current chairman (since May 1, 2003) and chief executive officer (since June 1, 2000) is Rick Wagoner, succeeding John F. Smith, Jr.

General Motors is selling its 20 percent stake in Fuji Heavy Industries, the parent of Subaru, in a deal that could raise more than $700 million as per news released on October 6, 2005.

Also, General Motors Canada auto workers voted on Sunday to ratify a new contract that will lay off 1,000 workers over the next three years, the Canadian Auto Workers and GM said.

General Motors lost 2.5 billion dollars last year, and would have made a profit if it was not saddled with 6 billion dollars in health costs.

The UAW and GM are now reaching agreement to reduce this health cost by about 1 billion dollars annually.

2006-8-25 5 Auto Scams You Absolutely Must Avoid!

5 Auto Scams You Absolutely Must Avoid!
 by: Pete Lance

People hate car dealers. Of course, there are always nice guys, but many car dealers just have to cheat their way to profits. Here are the top 5 auto scams that you absolutely must avoid, or risk paying way too much for your car.

Scam 1: The Yo-Yo Financing Scam

The dealer sells you a car and allows you to take it home immediately. You finance your car through the dealer, but a few days later, the dealer calls and tells you that your financing has fallen through. You are then told to set up new financing through the dealer, at a much higher cost to you, and a much higher profit to them. Avoid this at all costs! If you have bad credit, don't finance at the dealer. Arrange your own financing. If you finance through the dealer, never drive off your car immediately. You should wait at least 24 hours before taking your new car, so as to make sure financing is complete. This allows the dealer no way to play the scam on you.

Scam 2: The Window Etching Fee

This is one of the most ridiculous but common scams I've heard off. Basically the dealer offers to window etch your VIN number in the window of your car for you, at a price ranging from $300 to $1000. Some people have tried to talk down the price, and they often succeed, but the dealer still makes a few hundreds off you. The easiest way to solve this problem? Just purchase a do it yourself window etching kit at any decent auto parts store. It only costs $20.

Scam 3: The Dealer Preparation Fee

The dealer charges you a preparation fee to prepare your car. Some often charge an outrageous $500 or more just to peel off the plastic protection on the car, test drive the car and put in the fuses. Most MSRP stickers indicate that these costs have already been covered by the manufacturer. In fact, some car dealers permanently print it on the buyer's order to make it seem mandatory, but one way you can get it removed is by telling the dealer to add a credit (of the same amount as the dealer preparation fees) on the next line. If they refuse to do so, you should simply walk out of the dealership.

Scam 4: The Market Adjustment Fee

In this scam, the dealer tells you that your car is a really popular vehicle, and so to sell you the vehicle they have to add "Market Adjustment Fees" of several thousand dollars. This amount is usually indicated on an orange sticker next to manufacturer's MSRP sticker. A car may be popular, but if it is in stock, it is not worth paying extra for it. Many buyers, especially trade-in buyers, have been ripped off before. They focus only on what they get for their old car, and so they don't see the big picture. They may get an extra few thousand for their car, but they don't notice that they are charged a much higher Market Adjustment Fee. The dealer sells the car, gets the trade-in, and makes an extra off the buyer. Never pay more than the manufacturer's MSRP.

Scam 5: The Extended Warranty Scam

The Extended Warranty scam is quite old but it is still in use. And many people still do fall for it. Basically, when you take a loan on your car, the dealer will say that you have to purchase an extended warranty because the bank requires it for the loan. Avoiding this scam is very simple actually. Tell the dealer to write down in black and white that the extended warranty is required for the loan and they'll most probably find some excuse to remove the extended warranty. If they refuse to do so, then please do not buy from that dealership. Actually, the extended warranty is a great thing to have, but don't ever get it from the dealer. You can get far better deals elsewhere, especially online.Dont get ripped off by car dealers!

2006-8-25 iPod Integration for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo in 2005

iPod Integration for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo in 2005
 by: Jenny McLane

Almost every car company in the world is working to integrate iPod into their cars in 2005, said Philip Schiller, Apples senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. iPod customers want to take their entire music collection with them everywhere they go, including their car, so were excited to be able to work with so many leading automotive companies to provide customers with integrated solutions.

Volvo and Apple announced in January two iPod connectivity options for Volvo's entire 2005 US model line, allowing iPod users to listen to their music collection through their Volvo audio system. Mercedes-Benz USA also annouced an iPod Integration Kit for Mercedes-Benz, offering full iPod music navigation through the Mercedes-Benz audio system as well as the ability to select music using artist, album or playlist with the multifunction controls on the steering wheel and the integrated multifunction display on their instrument cluster.

iPod is the worlds most popular family of digital music players and the best way for Mac or PC users to listen to music at home, on-the-go and in the car. Apple is working with leaders in the automotive industry to provide the best experience through car stereo systems, as the automobile is a perfect place for iPod users to listen to their music.

The iPod Integration Kit for Mercedes-Benz will debut this April in the US ($300 plus installation) with the newly redesigned 2006 Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and for most other 2005 and 2006 models later this year. Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to provide full iPod music navigation for drivers to listen to their entire iPod music collection through the Mercedes-Benz audio system, as well as select their music using artist, album or playlist with the multifunction controls on the steering wheel and the integrated multifunction display on their instrument cluster.

Volvos two iPod connectivity options for their entire 2005 US model line allow iPod users to listen to their entire music collection through their Volvo audio system. The Volvo iPod Adapter will be available for S60, S80 and V70/XC70 models and will connect by simply plugging the iPod into a cable located in the cars glove compartment, while S40, V50 and XC90 owners can use a dashboard mounted FM transmitter. The Volvo iPod Adapter allows users to control their music through their Volvo sound system and steering wheel controls, and both options charge the iPod when plugged in.

The Volvo iPod Adapter pricing will be announced at program launch in the second quarter of 2005 for all Volvo models. Authorized Volvo dealers perform installation only. The Volvo iPod Adapter works with all iPods with a dock connector.

2006-8-25 Become a Test Driver for Car Magazines -- a Dream Job for Car Enthusiasts

Become a Test Driver for Car Magazines -- a Dream Job for Car Enthusiasts
 by: David Bellm

Imagine getting paid to drive some of the worlds greatest cars -- Mercedes, Corvette, Porsche, Viper, and others. Sounds great? Now picture doing that on luxurious all-expense-paid trips to exotic locations, where you hang out with some of the biggest names in the auto industry.

Thats everyday life for car-magazine test drivers.

Hard to believe? You're not the only person who thinks so. I've worked as a car-magazine test driver since 1999 and I still get looks of astonishment when I tell people what I do for a living. Getting a job like this seems like it would be as hard as winning the lottery. But the truth is, you don't have to be working for big, glossy sports-car magazines to enjoy a great job as a test driver. There are countless other publications that use test drivers. And you don't need extraordinary luck or rare talent to get into this profession.

Granted, it's not as easy as applying to get a part-time job at the mall, or even like going after a typical office job. But it's also not a frustrating, one-in-a-million chance like trying to become a rock star or a Hollywood actor either. Far from it.

There isn't a pre-specified way to become a car-magazine test driver as there is for, say, becoming a doctor or lawyer. So you have to pretty much find your own path into the field. That may sound intimidating, but it's actually another one of the profession's upsides -- people can work their way into test-driver jobs from widely varying experience and education. For example, one of my colleagues was working in a retail bookstore before becoming a test driver. He got into an automotive publication by taking a relatively easy job in a publisher's photo library. The photo library worked with the company's automotive division a lot, so he was in a prime position when a job opened up there.

Now he hangs out at racetracks, drives Jaguars and Corvettes, and goes on press trips to Hawaii and Palm Springs.

His story is fairly typical. Plenty of people -- men and women alike -- get into the profession in similar sorts of ways. And you might be surprised at how quickly things can move along toward getting such a job if you put your mind to it. Although every person's career progresses at a different pace, three to five years is a pretty normal time for breaking into becoming a test driver. Not bad for a job that routinely puts you behind the wheel of $60,000 cars for a week at a time.

Regardless of your experience or education, you'll have to learn how to write fairly well. Once test drivers drive a car, they're usually required to write an article based on their findings. And when they're not behind the wheel, test drivers are usually sitting at their desk writing other things such as news pieces, interview stories, or retrospective articles.

That said, you don't have to be an award-winning writer with decades of journalism experience to become a test driver. A lot of people working in this field are self-taught. With some study and diligent practice, most car enthusiasts could learn how to write well enough to do the job.

For anyone who loves cars, being a test driver is like a fairy tale mixed with a weekend in Vegas -- you cant help but be amazed by some of the things you get to do. It takes more effort to get these jobs than it does to break into other, more mundane fields. But it's well worth it.

2006-8-25 Test Driving Your Car

Test Driving Your Car
 by: Tim Henry

Getting a new car thrills and excites. Sometimes its easy to get carried away in our initial response to a car. No matter how much you like a certain vehicle, take it for a long, serious test drive.

You should first plan on spending as long as possible on your test drive. Fifteen minutes isnt enough time. You want to thoroughly examine the car and definitely have a mechanic check it out.

Take a look at the vehicle overall. Do the body parts line up? Does the paint match? Will doors open and close easily? Do the tires look like they wear evenly?

Check under the hood. You may not know exactly what youre looking at, but thats okay. Look for leaky hoses, worn belts, and dirty oil. Ask the dealer to show you the automatic transmission fluid. Smell it. If theres a burned odor, steer clear. The fluid should be clear and reddish. Transmission repair costs are not pretty.

Have someone show you the radiator water. It should have a light yellow or green color.

Make sure all of the warning lights and gauges work. Start the car and check all lights and functions. And heres a no-brainer - make sure no warning lights remain lit on the dashboard.

Look at the airbag indicator lights. If these lights dont illuminate as you start the car, or if they stay lit after the car is running, theyre not working correctly.

Try on the seat belt. Test the vehicle in the early evening to determine the headlight visibility. If you already have a child safety seat, go ahead and install it. Not all seats are compatible with all cars.

Accelerate up to 35-40 MPH. Is shifting smooth and steering straight? When braking, a pull to the left or the right could indicate a problem.

If you buy via the classifieds, make sure to check the name on the title and match it to the name on the seller's driver's license. Just to be safe.

Itd be nice to find the little ladys almost new car that wasnt driven more than 15,000 miles a year. Of course, low miles on the odometer would be a big plus, too. Even then, you can't assume that a low-mileage car is necessarily in great shape.

One major concern is odometer tampering. So do your homework. Ask for a detailed service history report. If records werent kept, you can check things out for yourself with the vehicle identification number. Provide this VIN number to your state vehicle history company to get a record of the cars former life.

Remember, no matter how in love you are with a car, think twice before purchasing one thats been wrecked. You dont need anyone elses problems. There are dozens of other cars you could enjoy just as much.

So test drive more than one car. Youll never regret a wise, well-thought out purchase.

2006-8-25 Test Driving A Used Car

Test Driving A Used Car
 by: John Sanderson

Nothing is quite as exciting as purchasing a new car. Even if it's a "used" new car. Don't get too caught up in the pretty shiny metal and chrome, it's what's under the hood that counts. Take a serious test drive before you make a decision. Used cars bought from a private owner don't have any warranty with them. You don't want to buy someone elses problem.

Do you homework. There is a lot of help available on line when you're purchasing a used car. You'll have the vin or vehicle identification number. With this number you can pull up a vehicle history through your state. Do a search for the model and year of your car online. Were there any specific complaints or call backs on this particular model?

The first place you should test drive this car is to your trusty mechanics shop. With a bit of notice he'll be glad to set a bit of time aside to go over the car with you. He'll take a look at your car with a keen and unprejudiced eye.

Take with you whatever service records are available on the car, these will help your mechanic understand the vehicles past. Your mechanic will check the hoses and belts and condition of the oil. These are easy fixes if they need changing or replacing. Your mechanic will check the radiator fluid for coolant level and to make sure the fluid is going to protect in severe cold conditions. He'll see how much oil, if any is present on the engine. Perhaps the car has been burning oil. He'll check the transmission fluid.

Another thing he'll check is the lights, inside on the dash, and outside to make sure they work. He'll check shocks, breaks and tires and alignment.

He'll take a look at the body. Is there any rust underneath on the frame? Does all the paint match, or has the car been repainted? Is everything in alignment? Do the doors open and shut properly?

Let your mechanic take the car out for a test drive. He may be able to pick up subtle things, perhaps a shutter or hesitation, or hear a sound that you may not. His is the best advice you're going to get in this situation.

2006-8-25 Toyota Announces Partner Robots

Toyota Announces Partner Robots
 by: Jenny McLane

An overview of the project to develop partner robots designed to function as personal assistants for humans is being carried out by Toyota for its corporate activities based on the spirit of contributing to society through making things and making automobiles.

Toyota is promoting the development of human-assisting partner robots using the collective experience cultivated by the Toyota Group in automotive development and production engineering.

In response to Japan's rapidly aging population and dwindling birth rates Toyota starts to develop robots in a need to secure a stable labor force for the future in order for its people to be able to enjoy comfortable standards of living. This is also true around the globe as people crave for better, more diversified lifestyles.

Possessing human characteristics, Toyota's partner robots are agile, warm and kind and also intelligent enough to skillfully operate a variety of devices in the areas of personal assistance care for the elderly, manufacturing, and mobility.

Since each area requires a special set of skills, Toyota is focusing on the development of three different types of partner robots (walking, rolling, and mountable), each with its own areas of expertise.

Advanced technology used in the Toyota Partner Robot enable its robots to play musical instruments. Toyota developed artificial lips that move with the same finesse as human lips, which, together with robots hands, enables the robots to play trumpets like humans do.

Toyota came up with the new stabilizing technologies for robots as it has Mobility control technology through the expanded development of the driving control technologies for automobiles. A small, lightweight and low-cost high precision sensors, developed based upon automotive sensor technology, is used as an attitude sensor that detects a tilt of a robot.

Wire-operation system is also being developed. The actuators as power sources are located on its torso, and wires are used to move the arms and legs. The weight of the arms and legs can be reduced, adding limberness and speed to the motion.

Toyotas announcement of the development of partner robots is followed by an exhibition of the results as part of the entertainment lineup for the Toyota Group Pavilion at the Expo 2005, Aichi, Japan.

Toyota plans to continue focusing the energy of the Toyota Group to further utilize their wealth of technical experience in automotive development and production to expand the usefulness of these robots while broadening their functions and areas of application.

2006-8-25 History Of Porsche

History Of Porsche
 by: Jeff Slokum

The history of Porsche began in 1948, June 8th to be exact. That is when the first two seater 356 was produced. There were 51 hand built Porsche 356/2 automobiles built in Austria. This model had a 40 hp 1.1 liter center engine.

The Porsche 911 rear engine automobile was introduced in 1963. It has been one of the biggest selling sports cars in the world. Over one million have been sold.

Porsche has a new offering for the sports car enthusiast in 2006. Positioned between the Boxster S and 911 Carrera, and marketed as an alternative to the BMW Z4 and the Mercedes SLK, the Cayman S is to start appearing in showrooms in January 2006 and will carry a price tag of $58,900.00. Porsche is only offering this hot-rod Cayman S and will not say when they will offer an entry level model.

The Cayman S is a two seater modified version of the Boxster convertible. The Cayman has a 295 hp 3.4 liter six cylinder mid-engine that goes from 0-60 mph in an impressive 5.1 seconds. Similar to the Boxster S, the Cayman S has a precise six speed manual gearbox with a double inertia flywheel and hydraulic clutch and power rear wheels. The Porsche Active Suspension Management is an electronic damping control system that is an option on the Cayman S. Switched on this system assures a smooth ride and it improves stability and grip for sharper steering responses.

Inside the Cayman S offers an on-board computer system with continuous indication of mileage, time and speed, automatic climate control, digital radio with in dash CD and a 7 speaker Bose Surround Sound System.

Porsche expects the new Cayman S to attract the upwardly mobile market. The company expects that Cayman buyers will be customers moving up from the Porsche Boxster.

2006-8-25 Motorcycle Shipping.

Motorcycle Shipping.
 by: Peter Lenkefi

Is motorcycle shipping any different to car shipping?

There are quite a few main differences between car shipping and motorcycle shipping. While a car has a reliable handbrake and four wheels for extra stability a motorcycle is quite different by design and has only two wheels with nothing to keep the bike stationery apart from the stand. You might think that motorcycle shipping would be cheaper than car shipping because of the difference in size of vehicles but this is rarely the case. The closed carriers that are often used should be specially designed to carry motorcycles and this will mean that there will either be palettes specially designed for the purpose of motorcycle shipping or there will be specially fitted tracks that serve the same purpose. What this means is that a motorcycle basically takes up the same room as a car when it needs to be shipped anywhere.

How expensive is motorcycle shipping?

This is dependant on two main factors. How far you are travelling and what services the company you intend to use has to offer. There are a variety of different services that a shipping company can offer you and you would be better using a specialist motorcycle shipper than a car shipper that offers motorcycle shipping as an extra service.

The further you are travelling and the more services you require the higher the price is likely to be, but you will receive a discount from the right company if you are transporting more than one motorbike so do shop around and check any quotes you receive carefully.

Is motorcycle shipping safe?

A reputable specialist motorcycle shipping company will know exactly what they are doing with your bike. Many companies employ motorbike enthusiasts and owners to drive the carriers so you can be sure that the driver knows how much your motorbike means to you. This isnt to say there isnt the occasional accident, its only to be expected when transporting vehicles across long distance.

A good shipping company will include some insurance with your quote and will try their utmost to ensure that nothing does go wrong. While the Insurance will cover you for scratches and careless damage by the shipping company it is unlikely to cover for acts of god like the ship sinking or damage due to rough waters. If youre especially worried about this, either because of the time of year, the expected weather or simply because you are transporting your pride and joy you can buy extra Insurance that covers for virtually any eventuality and your shipping company should be able to offer you a little advice on the relevant policies.

2006-8-25 Quality Safety Auto Parts for Mazda, Worthy Car Investments

Quality Safety Auto Parts for Mazda, Worthy Car Investments
 by: Tracy Dawson

Among the most distinguished names in the auto industry is Mazda. More than 800,000 units of Mazda vehicles are being sold out in the market every year, which only shows Mazda as a reliable auto maker. It is known for its exciting concept cars, powerful engines, including the revolutionary Wankel engine and tough and reliable auto parts designed and made with the most sophisticated technology. In the field of racing, Mazda has also exhibited superiority in building cars through its several wins credited to two, three- and four-rotor Mazda cars and other modified Mazda autos of private racers.

Mazda definitely deserves no less than excellent care as it affords every Mazda user great driving satisfaction. One way of taking good care of your Mazda is by installing the finest replacement and aftermarket Mazda parts [http://www.autopartscorner.com/mazda.html]. You don't have to go farther now because you can conveniently find the best Mazda parts in one convenient store online, Auto Parts Corner. For many years now, this store is considered as one of the most trusted sources of top of the line replacement auto parts for various makes and models.

Featured in this store are thousands of high quality safety parts for your Mazda car including Mazda tail lights [http://www.autopartscorner.com/tail_lights/mazda.html], Mazda rear lights, Mazda Bumpers, Mazda rear bumper and Mazda mirror. Investing on safety parts like these is never a waste of money; except of course, if you buy low quality replacement and aftermarket auto parts from a non-reliable source. At Auto Parts Corner, there is nothing to worry because getting your replacement parts from this store assures you of getting the finest from the industry. Its well designed online store itself can tell you it has the best solution to your auto parts needs.

Since most of these auto parts are fixed outside the car, they are made to enhance the car's exterior as well; thus, replacing them can be beneficial not only to your safety but to your car's looks, too. Headlights for example are designed to last longer than most auto parts; however, you can replace your stock Mazda headlights with excellently designed headlamps to give your Mazda a fresh new look. But more importantly, replacing your Mazda headlights with lamps that provide broader and longer beam can reduce risks in driving, especially at night.

Mirrors like the auto lights are important safety features in a car as they allow the driver to see the area behind or at the side of the car. High quality Mazda mirrors available at this Auto Parts Wholesale dealer provides better view of the road; thereby, they help prevent you from hitting obstacles, another vehicle or a pedestrian on the road more effectively.

Bumpers for various Mazda models are also offered in this store. These are among the most essential safety parts in a car since it is the Mazda bumper that absorbs the force during a collision. Without a bumper, the risks of incurring serious damages both to the passengers and the vehicle are higher. If your Mazda bumper has been damaged due to a small or high impact collision, replace it with tough and durable replacement bumper. It's better to spend some extra cash for these new parts than to incur more damages in the event of an accident.

Avail of these auto parts now and enjoy auto parts wholesale deals. Other performance parts offered for your Mazda car are Mazda engine parts, Mazda Radiators, Mazda starter, Mazda Wheels, Mazda suspension parts and Mazda Spoilers [http://www.autopartscorner.com/spoilers/mazda.html]. Aside from these, a complete and up-to-date list of quality replacement and aftermarket BMW Parts, Toyota Parts, Chevrolet Parts, Ford Parts, Volkswagen Parts and a whole lot more await you at the most experienced and trusted dealer online.

2006-8-25 Buying A Pre-Owned Automobile

Buying A Pre-Owned Automobile
 by: Michael J Medeiros

Purchasing a Pre-owned Automobile can be nerve racking for consumers. There are a number of concerns toward the integrity of the Automobile. In addition, it is difficult to compare the appearance and condition of a used car to the asking price. With some simple steps, a consumer can make a pre-owned purchase simple and know they are obtaining the vehicle for a reasonable price.

Understand the Sellers Mindset Why is the Car for Sale?

Probably the most important factor to consider is the reason a vehicle is for sale. Factors of the owners life may have lead him or her to require a new vehicle. For example, their children may become involved in sports or a new child may have been introduced to the family. Reasons like this are good to hear. They indicate that the seller probably would have kept the car and was satisfied with the reliability and comforts offered.

In contrast, if the seller simply became sickened by the vehicle and upgraded, take a look at what they are driving now. Did they upgrade to a newer model of the same vehicle? If so, it is evident that they where pleased with the vehicle that was for sale. Otherwise, the vehicle may become a headache. If the seller purchased a different make and model, ask about the newer car. Their response will indicate what was important to them at the time they purchased the vehicle. These elements of importance are good indicators of things they disliked in the vehicle for sale. Therefore, if a hint of reliability is muttered, the vehicle for sale could be a, lemon.

What has been done to the Vehicle for sale?

Ask for receipts in advance. To learn what was done to a vehicle, receipts are fairly important and provide good proof along with the date service occurred. Ask for receipts in advance. The seller may have to dig through documents to find receipts for service and parts. Because of this, asking when viewing a vehicle may not be a wise choice. In contrast, if the seller knows in advance, he or she will have time to find all the related receipts.

Analyze the modifications that had been done. Did the owner install components that increase the fuel mileage? The vehicle may have been a financial burden. Did the owner install performance enhancing parts? The vehicle may have lacked power or did not perform satisfactorily. Did the owner install factory parts? This is a good indicator that the owner was satisfied with the vehicle and the parts proved reliable to him or her.

Modifications to a vehicle will usually prove to be unsatisfactory. Keep in mind, before a vehicle is manufactured, auto makers spend thousands of dollars in engineering the vehicle. They are primarily concerned with ergonomics, performance, and safety. These engineers found the stock tire created the perfect wheel for the vehicle, the exhaust system proved safe and provided the best engine performance, and the external engine components offered economical benefits without robbing motor performance. In most cases, modified parts are throwing away all the money spent on research and engineering in a vehicle. Unless there is a purpose other than what the vehicle was designed, racing or carrying heavy loads, it is a wise choice to look for stock parts.

What is the appearance of the Vehicle?

One of the best ways to judge a vehicle is by the appearance. A clean and neat interior is a good sign that person was happy with a vehicle. In contrast, a poorly maintained interior may indicate that the vehicle was neglected. Did the owner ensure the carpet was preserved by using mats? Are there any burn wholes in the upholstery? Did they clean spills in the vehicle or let them become stains in the carpeting? Neglect on the inside is commonly believed to provide good insight on a poorly maintained vehicle.

Walking around the outside vehicle can reveal the driving behavior of the current owner. Look at the drive wheels, are they worn significantly more than the other tires on the vehicle? This would indicate heavy acceleration, which is extremely abusive to internal engine parts and the drive train of the vehicle. Look for variations in the vehicles paint. If variations are seen, the vehicle could have been in an accident. Another indication of bodywork is to look for over-spray within the engine compartment and door jams. While a history report is fairly resourceful, accidents could have occurred that are not listed on the report. An inspection is always recommended. After a high speed accident, vehicles tend to have significant problems.

What is the Vehicle Worth?

Being value conscious is wise as a consumer. There are a number of resources that indicate a car value. In most cases, the seller of a pre-owned vehicle was offered a very low price as a trade-in value for their new vehicle. They are probably willing to sell the vehicle for less than, book value, as they are wisely attempting to gain more than what was offered at the dealer. However, book value can lack many considerations and used only as a reference point. The best way to judge the value is to shop. Look at similar models for sale and evaluate the condition and desired preferences.

Conduct research and read reviews of the vehicle. The vehicle may appear to be in mint condition, yet the owner neglected to bring the vehicle to a dealer for an important recall. Most would agree, this would greatly affect the overall condition as the vehicle may not be in safe working order. In addition, there are a variety of options available for each vehicle. Which options add value that can be confirmed on the vehicle for sale? Does the vehicle actually have the premium sound system and manufactures premium wheels? Put more effort into assessing the value then mileage and model, to ensure the vehicle is worth the asking price or making an offer.

Purchase a pre-owned vehicle with confidence

Through researching a desired vehicle and shopping around, a consumer can purchase a reliable vehicle and save thousands of dollars for their efforts. The savings in purchasing a pre-owned vehicle could be considered as a payment for the work done. In addition to savings, purchasing a well maintained pre-owned vehicle eliminates the fear of purchasing a poorly designed vehicle. There have been thousands of people whom purchased and tested the vehicle. The vehicle has something better than a crash test. It was tested in the real world.

2006-8-25 Tough, Powerful and Reliable Volvo Parts: To Match Volvo Cars Excellent Performance

Tough, Powerful and Reliable Volvo Parts: To Match Volvo Cars Excellent Performance
 by: Kevin Anderson

Among the most venerated and strongest-selling cars from Volvo is the Volvo 700 series. It was introduced in the 1980s initially as replacement for the Volvo 200 models. The earlier Volvo cars however, still generated high sales so the 700 series became another line of Volvo vehicles. Included in the series were the Volvo 740, Volvo 760 and Volvo 780. Each of these vehicles flaunted excellent driving abilities and boasted the most sophisticated safety features, making them the safest vehicles in the market. As Volvos first foray in the luxury segment, this series also featured luxurious exterior and interior Volvo Parts.

Unlike most cars produced in the 80s, the 700 series had a low profile, sleek and slightly rounded edges, which suggested its highly advanced performance auto parts and exterior features. When it comes to ride quality and handling, the Volvo 700 series cars exhibited driving abilities that are as remarkable as their looks. All 700 series cars were provided with turbocharged engines, stiff chassis and sturdy shock absorbers that offer the best performance at any driving condition. They were regarded as the fastest diesel powered cars, a distinction that made a lasting impression about Volvo as a quality auto maker.

The Volvo 700 series are no longer in production; they were replaced by the Volvo 940 in 1992. However, they did not vanish completely as they were only restyled and relaunched as a new line of full-size rear wheel drives. Most of its drivetrain and powertrain components and other major and minor auto parts remained in the Volvo 940. Even today, Volvo 700 series cars can still be seen being driven through highways and city streets all over the country. Its sturdy body construction and hard-wearing Volvo auto parts make it dependable and long lasting.

Driving a Volvo car such as gutsy and reliable Volvo 700 series is indeed something to be proud of. However, having one also requires its owner to take care of it. Its life after all doesnt only depend on its hard-wearing Volvo Parts and Car Parts but as well as on how one takes good care of this vehicle. 2006-8-25 Mercedes-Benz B-Class: Blends Different Vehicle Concepts Into Versatility

Mercedes-Benz B-Class: Blends Different Vehicle Concepts Into Versatility
 by: Jenny McLane

Blending different vehicle concepts into one versatile vehicle, Mercedes-Benz announced its new B-Class "Compact Sports Tourer" would have its world premiere at the Geneva International Motor Show in March.

The B-Class blends different vehicle concepts into one versatile vehicle. One major feature of the B-Class is the sandwich concept developed by Mercedes-Benz. With the space-saving arrangement of the engine and transmission partly in front of and partly beneath the passenger cell, the new B-Class offers the interior spaciousness of larger sedans and wagons despite its compact external dimensions.

The body has a length of 4270 millimeters, corresponding to the compact car class. Inside, however, the new Mercedes model offers more than other cars of comparable size in this segment in all comfort-related respects, e.g. shoulder-room, legroom and headroom.

Occupants in the rear benefit from the long wheelbase (2778 millimeters); this allows a distance between seats and generous knee room, which almost matches that in the S-Class.

The B-Class can be converted from a touring car to a practical van. Depending on the number and position of the seats, the load capacity can be increased from 544 to up to 2245 liters (with rear seats and front passenger seat removed). This corresponds to the load capacity of large wagons. The maximum loading length is 2.95 meters.

The new Mercedes B-Class Compact Sports Tourer has a height-adjustable load compartment floor, an asymmetrically divided, folding and removable rear seat unit plus an optionally removable front passenger seat. The new B-Class will go on sale in Europe this summer.

2006-8-25 Buying New vs. Used Cars

Buying New vs. Used Cars
 by: Mantius Cazaubon

New vs used. Which car is right for you? Consider the following.

Owning a brand new car is exciting. But financially speaking, it makes more sense to buy a used car. As soon as you drive a new car off the lot, it loses a great portion of its value. This is because your car is no longer new.

New cars lose about 40% of their value within 3 years, then depreciation starts to slow down. Why not buy a used car and allow someone else to take that depreciation hit?

The previous owner will have absorbed the steepest part of the depreciation cycle. At that point the costs of owning and operating the car will be reduced. The money you save on depreciation will surely go a long way.

Another benefit of buying used is lower cost. By buying used you pay less. You will also save on financing costs, insurance premiums, registration and licensing fees. You dont have to worry about paying sales tax.

As with everything else there are a few downsides to buying a used car. There are greater chances for costly unwarranted repairs. You may very soon have to do major maintenance on your car, including replacing tires, battery, brakes, muffler, and perhaps even the transmission.

A used car is usually less reliable. You dont know exactly what youre getting into and how the previous owner treated the car. However, every situation is different and some used models may actually be far more reliable than some new ones.

If you can pay cash, go the new car way. Enjoy the feeling of knowing you're the original owner of a new car in mint condition. Nothing can replace that feeling.

Otherwise do not hang your hat higher than you can reach. Practice financial prudence. Save your money and comfort yourself knowing that one day you will be able to afford that dream car. One day when money is no object.

2006-8-25 Buying a Used Car

Buying a Used Car
 by: Tuaso Koning

Choose the used car that is right for you.

Buying a car is the second most expensive purchase, after a house. It is therefore important to consider budget and the main purpose that you will put your car too. Are you going to use it for shopping trips and family outings or are you going to be out on the road alot. If youclock up lots of those gas guzzling miles every year a diesel engine car is worth considering Reliability and maintenance are also important considerations. Although, ultimately the make, the model and condition of car you purchase will be determined by your budget, therefore look at your needs, and see if your budget will allow for them. Also look at reliable consumer research periodicals, that have tested different makes and models of car for reliability, safety and cost of ownership.

It is advisable to do your homework first, whether buying from a car lot or a private seller, so you do not pay over the odds because you had no idea of the true value of what you have bought. This can be done quiet easily by looking through different magazines and other publications selling cars. cars of the same make and model should have a similar sale price.

If you are considering a used car ,then it is advisable to pay a small fee to get an inspection by a qualified person, this is money well spent to avoid any costly repairs afterwards. A well looked after car will have a service record, be diligent and check the service record thoroughly, get intouch with the garage that serviced the vehicle to make sure it is genuine. Also have 'hire purchase' check to make sure there are no outstanding payments left on the vehicle.

If you cannot get hold of qualified person to look the vehicle over for you, then there some very simple and basic checks you can make yourself. Look for rust on the bodywork and chips in the paintwork. Inside check the seats are not ripped or have excesive wear and tear, check to see the foot pedals and steering wheel are all consistent with milage and age of vehicle.

It is important that you take a test drive of the actuall car you are buying. test drive it properly and make sure the vehicle is safe, check to make sure the brakes work properly and are not worn or leaking any fluid. Finally think carefully before making the final decision, make sure it is logical and not impulsive.Ideally test drive a few different cars before handing your hard earned cash over. good luck.

2006-8-25 Tips On How To Buy A Used Car

Tips On How To Buy A Used Car
 by: Frederic Madore

With economics a major problem, used cars have become great alternatives to people who do not have much to spare in the financial area. Finding used cars is not really a problem as there are thousands of used cars outlets in the country. Buyers of used cars will, in fact, have a wide range of models and brands to choose from.

But as these cars are already well used, it is important for buyers to understand the dynamics of buying a used car to ensure that they are getting value for their money. Here are some tips that any buyer can take heart whether they are buying used or brand new automobiles.

Scout for the perfect deal

The principle of collect and collect, then select also applies in buying a used car. Remember that used car outlets need you more than you need them, so make the most of this special privilege and look not only for the better but for the best car and the best deal.

Used car outlets, in fact, have special promos and deals that you can avail of. Some offer discounts, rebates and even installment payments while others opt for free services like changing of tire or cleaning.

Wait up for a good deal. For though you are not paying full price for the car, you still deserve quality from the payment that you are going to make. After all, whether it is brand new or a car already used, it will still put a huge dent on your budget. So you better make the most out of every penny that you will be shelling out.

Give yourself time

When buying or scouting for a used car, it is important that you give yourself ample time to look for one. Otherwise you will only end up buying a used car that you will not be using after a couple of months.

Giving yourself no time to decide and choose will only make you settle for a used car that is not really what you are looking for. This may be well and good for a brand new car because at least with a new one, you will not have to think about the wear and tear. Buying a used car in a hurry is suicide in more ways than one, because you are also compromising your safety when you choose in haste.

Be aware of the lemon law in your state

The Lemon Law covers both used and brand new cars. While different states have different policies for used cars under the Lemon Law, basically, it gives you the same coverage. If you find that a used car is sold to you under false pretenses or did not function the way it was supposed to function in accordance to the guidelines, you have the right as a consumer to invoke the Lemon Law.

Buy from a friend

Buying a used car from friends who you know is way better than buying used cars sold in shops. For unless you have an eye for quality used car, you might end up buying a junk that you will not be able to use in the long run. If you know people who are selling their used cars at lower costs not because the cars are already worn but because they are buying new models, thats better. Its better to buy the used cars from private individuals because in a way you know how the car was used.

Ask for referrals

It is also a good idea to ask the help of people who have already bought used cars, as they will be able to guide you with the entire procedure as well as refer you to the right store and person that can help you choose a quality used car. They can also refer you to a reputable used car store that they have already tried. This way, you can be assured of the quality of product and service.

Dont be afraid to ask your friends, relatives or colleagues at work. Youll find that they are more than willing to help someone. After all, nothing boosts the ego than the thought that they can be experts in one subject.

2006-8-25 Buying A Used Car - The Wise Way!

Buying A Used Car - The Wise Way!
 by: Ryan Larson

I have always purchased my cars used. And each time, I got a great deal. Don't think I counted on luck, though - no siree. There are a few "musts" for making sure you don't end up drinking "lemon"-ade.

Spending a little time now may save you serious money later. Check Consumer Reports on the safest cars out there. Looks are one thing, but don't ignore safety.

Go to a reputable car repair shop and ask if you can bring the vehicle by for a look-over. While you're there, ask what cars they have to repair most often. Take heed. Also, ask what the inspection includes, how long it takes, and the price. Always get this information in writing - just to be safe.

Once the vehicle has been inspected, ask the mechanic for a written report with a cost estimate for all necessary repairs. Be sure the report includes the vehicles make, model and VIN. Go over it with a fine-toothed comb and make sure you understand every item. If you decide to make an offer to the dealer after approving the inspection, you can use the estimated repair costs to negotiate the price of the vehicle.

Are you going to purchase from an individual?

Remember, private sellers generally are not covered by the Used Car Rule and dont have to use the Buyers Guide. However, you can use the Guides list of an autos major systems as a shopping tool. You also can ask the seller if you can have the vehicle inspected by your mechanic. If he/she says no... beware. No matter how nice the car appears, something fishy is going on.

Now, a private sale likely will be on an "as is" basis, unless your purchase agreement with the seller specifically states otherwise. If you have a written contract, the seller has to live up to the contract. The car also may be covered by a manufacturers warranty or a separately purchased service contract. But that doesn't mean that the warranty and service contract are transferable. Plus, other limits or costs may apply. Before you buy the car, ask if it's still under warranty or service contract, and review that baby carefully.

Some states will require vehicle sellers to pass a vehicle inspection before a sale is made. That's not always the case, though. To find out what your state requires, contact your state Attorney General's office or a local consumer protection agency. Hey, it's just a phone call. And it could save you a real headache later!

Whether you end up buying a used car from a dealer, a co-worker, or a neighbor, follow these tips to learn as much as you can about the car:

Examine the car carefully yourself using an inspection checklist. You can find a checklist in many of the magazine articles, books and Internet sites that deal with buying a used car. My favorite book that I've used several times is How to Buy and Maintain a Used Car by Brad Crouch.

Once I bought a used car in August, and never thought to test the rear defroster. Guess what? Come November, I found out it didn't work. If you're shopping in the summer, don't forget to check the heater. And if it's cold as ice outside, still turn that air on full blast and make sure it works!

Test drive the car under varied road conditionson hills, highways, and in stop-and-go traffic.

Ask for the cars maintenance record. If the owner doesnt have copies, contact the dealership or repair shop where most of the work was done. They may share their files with you.

Talk to the previous owner, especially if the present owner is unfamiliar with the cars history.

Have the car inspected by a mechanic you hire.

There you go. Do your homework, and it's very likely that, like me, you'll find yourself buying used every time!

2006-8-25 Getting The Best Price For Your Used Car

Getting The Best Price For Your Used Car
 by: Pete Lance

You can get the best price for your used car only when a new care of the same model is being sold at the highest price. If a manufacturer gives discounted prices for a new car of the same model, you cant sell your car at the best price. In other words, the best time to sell your used car is when the prices for the model you have are at the highest. Hence the important factor that affects the price of a used car is the price of a new car of that model you own. So it is better to wait until the price of a new car of your model goes up rather than selling it when the manufacturer gives discounts for a new car of your model.

Preparing your car for selling it is a must. You have to consider what the potential buyer thinks of your car. So you have to maintain the interior and the exteriors of your car properly. If your car is not clean inside and out, the potential buyer may not think positively about your car. This simple issue might make you lose a possible deal. Therefore proper maintenance of your car is essential to fetch a good price for your used car. Some people might overlook some serious problems in the car if the car looks shiny and glowing. Touch up scratches on the exterior and interior. Make up the small dents in it. Balance the tires properly. Clean inside and out. This might fetch you a profitable deal.

The price of your car should take into consideration the mileage and the condition of the car. You might also consider the demand for that model. Cars that have run for more miles are often not preferred and they are considered used up. Hence most of the people prefer cars that have run for fewer miles per year. Usually a potential buyer would consider the price that you have fixed for your car as the asking price and he would negotiate the price. It is always better to have a margin of 5% of the price that you want to sell so that your can negotiate that 5% with the buyer of your car.

Finding places to sell your used car? There are sites that specialize in selling and buying cars. You can also rely on the local auto traders in your locality to sell them. Or, place classifieds in the newspapers to get your deal.

If you're like most of us, or maybe I should say if you're like me, the way you choose what new tires you should purchase for your car is by reading the label on the side of your existing car tires. After comparing the prices of the compatible tires with the amount of money in your tire budget, then a choice can be made. But is it the right choice? I mean, if you have no idea what the label on your tire means or what you are purchasing, you could really be leaving out a whole new world of tire options.

Okay, a typical car tire label reads something like this "P185/60R 14 82H." In this little car label "sentence" there is a wealth of information. But it doesn't do you any good if you haven't the slightest idea of what it all means. So, if you're like me, this guide to car tire language can come in quite handy on your next trip to the automotive department.

The first letter on the tire label indicates what type of vehicle the tire is intended for: P is for passenger car, LT is for light truck, and T is for your temporary or spare tire.

The numbers immediately following, "185" in this label, is the section width of the tire in millimeters. Shorter or narrower tires have lower numbers.

The numbers immediately following the slash indicate the tire's aspect ratio, which is translated as the section height as percentage of the section width. In lay's terms, this tire's height is 60 percent of its width. Performance tires would have a lower number in this space.

The next letter stands for the tire's type. In this case, "R" stands for radial. The 14 immediately following is the wheel rim diameter in inches.

The next number in the label, "82," stand for the tire's load index. According to the Maximum Load-Carrying Capacity chart, a set of four of these tires could safely support a vehicle weighing 4,188 pounds.

The final letter stands for the amount of traveling speeds that the tire is capable of sustaining safely under optimal driving conditions. "The speed ratings are S for up to 112 mph, H for up to 130 mph, V for up to 150 mph, Z for 150 mph+.At high speeds, the tire can get very hot and the tread can separate from the belts. The speed ratings tell you how fast you can go and still be safe.

When selecting tires for your car or motorcycle you should also pay attention to some other tire qualities which may effect your car or motorcycles performance or the durability of your tires. While the most important considerations for you to consider when purchasing new tires will be the tread type, size and mileage warranty, do not hesitate to ask questions if your dealer uses a term that you are unfamiliar with.

After all, it's your money and you want the safest most durable tires for your dollar. Most of the tire size and speed ratings are the same for car and motorcyle tires but always refer to your owners manual.

2006-8-25 Why are Skulls Linked to Riders?

Why are Skulls Linked to Riders?
 by: Maricon Williams

We often see riders with skull tattooed on their arms, back and thighs. Not only that, patches, sculptures, pins, banners, designs and other stuffs connected to riders are somewhat invaded by this gruesome design. What is its significance and why are they used by riders?

It is a well-settled principle that the things used by a person reflects his character. Isn't it morbid to use skulls or 'death heads' to identify you? It may mean terror, death, evil and graveyard. It may put a person tobad light and prejudice, isn't it?

It is hard to reckon why skulls have become an acceptable design in the 21st century. Moreover said acceptance has continued up to the present time. Others may treat it as demonic, frightening, dangerous and doomed icon. On the other hand, there are those who are taking it as cool and attractive artwork.

LuckyMojo.com has given an explanation to this. Catherine said, Bikes and low-riders, as well as some members of the military , utilize the skull as a significator of reckless machismo barely protected from disaster or doomed bravery that accepts its fate.

Why are skulls en vogue? First because it is a symbol of bravery and greatness. If you use it then you will likely to be perceived as brave or the opposite of coward or frail. Therefore the skull's influence can redound to the image of the person using it.

Though, the use of this designs and icons can be treated as a 'defense mechanism' still, a lot of people are using it to give an air of confidence and satisfaction for themselves. Machismo is something that lifts men's ego. Thus, this machismo thing keep them on the track to do dangerous and risky activities like going into wars, riding and racing. It's the thing the keeps them going!

2006-8-25 The Safest Cars on the Road Keep Your Family Safe

The Safest Cars on the Road Keep Your Family Safe
 by: Steven Anderson

When you go car shopping you are probably dazzled by the sports cars or even the big burly SUVs as well as the shiny colors and whether or not the vehicle is fully loaded. Frequently, you will hear people talking about what car they want to buy and will hear them mention things like leather seats, a great sound system, DVD players and mini TV screens, great rims and other similar features. However, unfortunately, you do not frequently hear people talking about the safety rating of the vehicle and how well it performed in crash tests or if it has recently been recalled. For some reason Americans are more consumed with how comfortable and cool their car is and makes them rather than how safe it can keep them. However, even if consumers are not overly interested in safe cars insurance companies are.

Insurance companies focus on keeping people safe, reducing accidents, and ultimately the amount of money they have to pay out for coverage. So, safe cars are the pick of the litter so to speak for insurance companies. They are so favored, in fact, that insurance companies frequently offer discounts to individuals who buy safe cars resulting in hundreds of dollars in savings each year on premiums. Safe does not mean the car is unattractive or without all the extras you want, so get it out of your head that safe does not equal cool.

And while the trend may not change and people will continue to look for cool cars, they should keep in mind that there are indeed cool cars that are also safe cars. Each year a rating list of the top 25 safest cars is produced and if you are in the car buying market you should definitely take a peak and see if the car you are interested in buying is on that list. If not, check out the other safe cars that did make the list and see if you can find something that is equally cool and considerably safer. The following cars made it on the safe car list and also have some amazing features that will please even the pickiest car connoisseur.

Upscale Cars

If you are interested in and can afford an upscale car and are also concerned about safety, then you should consider the Audi A4 or perhaps the BMW 330i. The Lexus ES300 also ranked high in the crash tests and overall safety in the upscale sedan category.

Small Cars

Small cars that rank high on the top 25 safety car list include the Volkswagen golf and Honda Civic which received the top honors. Another safe car in this category includes the Volkswagen Jetta.

Midsize Cars

Volkswagen also took the top prize in the midsize category with the Volkswagen Passat GLX 6.0. The Nissan Altima and Subaru Legacy also ranked high in the mid size family sedan category.

Pickups

Everyone thinks pickup trucks are safe, however some are safer than others and generally pick up trucks are not as safe as cars. In the top 25 safest cars the Toyota Tundra SR5 4.7, Ford F150 XLT 5.4, and the Dodge Ram SLT 4.7 ranked higher and safer than the rest.

Minivans and SUVs

The minivan and SUV category have an interesting array of really safe vehicles and then some that are hazards to drivers and passengers. Minivans that responded well in the tests include the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey EX, and the Mazda MPV. The safest SUVs include the Lexus RX300, Toyota Highlander, and the Saturn VUE as well as others.

Of course, you could choose to buy a safe vehicle and still be injured in an accident. This is because there is no perfect car that is constructed in a way that it can protect you 100%. However, there are plenty of cars that are significantly safer than others and as a result consumers should pay attention to these cars. Fortunately, some of the safer models are actually very stylish and come with the latest gadgets and features so many people are looking for in a new car. So, no matter if you want the coolest car on the market you can still find one that is rated high in the safety category. Honda, Lexus, BMW, Saturn, Volkswagen, and others all ranked high in their respective categories and are all very popular car models. Also, cars today are significantly safer than they were even 15 years ago and tires are safer as well.

If you buy a used vehicle that is 10-15 years old you can rest assured it will not have the same safety qualities as new cars made today. The reason for this is safety standards were different as well as the technology used to build the cars. As a result, older cars simply are not as safe. The best option for your safety and that of your family and other passengers is to buy a car that is ranked high on the safety list and rest assured that if you are in an accident your car will protect you as much as possible because it was designed with safety in mind. By making safety one of the qualities you look for in a vehicle, even above price or design, you are choosing to protect yourself and your family, which is the best decision you can possibly make. Remember to take a look at the top 25 list before you start car shopping. Not only are the top 25 cars in all categories listed, but some of the worst cars are listed as well so you will know what to avoid. Happy car shopping!

2006-8-25 Buying Used Cars - Top 10 Dealership Scams

Buying Used Cars - Top 10 Dealership Scams
 by: Andy McDowell

Top 5 Dealership Scams:

1. The VIN# window etching scam

Basically a dealer will charge you $300-$900 for window etching and they will tell you that you have to pay the money to get the loan because the banks insists on it.

Some dealers might tell you that the etching is free but will add on the etch money to your monthly payments to make up for it.

The best way to avoid this scam is to force the dealer to put it in writing if they say that the etching is free or simply etch the car yourself.

Remember a lender doesn't require that you purchase any extras on a car. All the lender cares about is that you can make your payments on time regularly. Don't buy into it.

2. The Financing Scam

I have mentioned this before already, but here it is in more detail.

Basically you trade in your old car and the finance manager tells you that your interest rate is good and then gives you the car.

After a week or two passes you get the call from him that you didn't qualify for the interest rates that they gave you upon making the deal.

Every new purchase has a clause in the contract that usually states that the deal is "subject to loan approval."

This gives the finance manager a loop hole in getting more money out of you.

All that this means in the contract is that the deal is not finished yet even you already have possession of the car and have signed the contract.

The dealer can then charge you $1000 more in finance fees and up your monthly payments by $50.

This scam is generally pulled on people with bad credit because it is more plausible.

If you are wondering why they would sell you the car at 6% APR if they knew you had bad credit (remember they ran the credit search already) the answer is simple; to sell the car.

You can avoid this scam by not financing the car with the dealer if you know that you have bad credit.

You are better off going to a credit union and financing the car yourself. When you buy a new car the deal should be made on the price of the car, not on the monthly payments.

3. The Credit Score Scam

This scam is ridiculous at best. This is when the finance manager tells you that your credit score is lower than it really is so that they can get you for higher interest rates.

This scam is pulled on everyone; good or bad credit.

This scam is easy to avoid. Just get your own copy of your credit report from Equifax.com, and bring it with you.

It is really difficult to lie to you about your credit score if you have your own copy of it. If your paper and theirs doesn't say the same thing, go somewhere else because that dealership is lying to you.

Don't forget to let them know it too because it'll be nice to watch them squirm.

4. The Forced Warranty Scam

This is when the finance manager tells you that you are not eligible for the loan by the bank unless you pay an extra $2000 for a 2-3 year extended warranty.

This scam just doesn't make sense. Basically the finance manager is telling you that the bank won't trust you to pay the $20,000 loan for the car, but they will trust you if you pay even more money. That's just stupid.

You can avoid this scam if you can force them to put it in writing that you "have" to pay the extended warranty in order to get the loan.

That way you can bring a copy of the contract to your local State's Attorney's office to verify that the deal is valid. I can bet that the finance manager will change his tune pretty quickly.

5. The Dealer Prep Scam

Let me first let you know that cost is not only legal but very much common practice. I still refer to it as a scam because it is just another way for you to end up paying more money for the car.

Basically the dealer will tell you have to an extra $500 to cover the labor costs of the dealership's 5-point inspection.

You are paying for the time it took for the dealership to make sure that the car wouldn't explode on you in the first week of owning it.

This check up that you are paying so much money for is for the dealership to remove plastic from the seats etc, vacuum the car out, and making sure that all of the fuses and fluids are ready to go.

When factories deliver the new cars to the dealerships the cost of delivery and prep is already covered, so basically you are paying the dealership for work that they haven't really done.

I swear they could get the car in perfectly ready to drive condition and put everything right back in it just so that they can make you pay the fee again.

You can avoid this scam by simply asking the dealership to add an extra $500 credit to the deal to make sure you do not have to pay the money.

If they refuse, you can then decide if the car is worth the money. If it is fine; buy the car, if not; go to another dealer that will remove the dealer prep costs.

2006-8-25 How to Replace Motorcycle Grips

How to Replace Motorcycle Grips
 by: Maricon Williams

Riders can easily be bored by the look, design and feel of their motorcycle parts and gears. New look excites them. It also gives them a different hype. This is the reason why they keep on changing them from time to time.

Most, if not all of the riders know how to repair or maintain their motorcycles. Changing tires, fixing the stand up to its cleaning, washing and waxing you bet, seasoned riders knew it!

Some of them are learning it in an easy manner like for instance in a course or through a peer or another rider. But no matter how they acquire their knowledge the fact is that said knowledge will always redound to their advantage.

There are some parts that are easy to replace. Grips, for instance are good example. It only involves few steps and here they are:

1.Ready your new grips, rubbing alcohol, hammer, socket and WD-40.

2.Remove the bar end. Be careful with its head and threads. If they are already damaged, better replace them also.

3.Pull the end of the grip and spray on the WD-40 to loosen the contact. You can remove the grips by twisting and folding its inner edge. Remember where the original location of the inner edge.

4.After the grip has been pulled, clean the handle with rubbing alcohol. Be sure to remove the glue from the Clip-on. Also, lubricate the Clip-on with rubbing alcohol and slide the new grip. While sliding it, do some twisting techniques. Do this while the alcohol has not yet evaporated otherwise it will be harder to twist.

If the new grip material will allow, you can also use oil instead of alcohol.

5.To tap the new grip into position, use the hammer and socket. Make sure that it fits well and will not impair the bike's operation. To test it, roll the throttle to full-on and let it snap back. You can ride around to be used to its stiffness.

Finally, you can enjoy your bike's new look and new grip!

2006-8-25 What You Should Never Do When You Buy A Car

What You Should Never Do When You Buy A Car
 by: Pete Lance

Sooner or later most people buy a new car. It doesn't matter if it's your third new car or your first, it almost always happens sometime.

There is an art to buying a new car and if you know it, you're better prepared when that day arrives.

Every car buyer knows that there are tricks to getting a car at a reasonable price. Dealerships and private sellers rarely mark the car at it's actual worth.

Instead, they mark the price up a little so that they make a good profit for themselves. Another reason is that this lets them give their salespeople better commissions, and this makes them work harder to sell the car to you.

Whatever the reason, almost all dealerships can be talked down on their initial prices, if you know how to haggle properly. When you buy a car, keep this in mind all the time.

The savvy buyer will know that they can talk the dealership's prices down a little bit, if he/she knows the dealer's lingo and tricks beforehand and shows that he/she are prepared to deal with them.

Salesmen are there to try and hustle a good price for the company, while you are trying to hustle a good price for yourself.

If you have ever wanted to get your money's worth out of buying a car, then this will be your comprehensive guide to getting through all of the bull and getting a car at a good price.

Most of the time, it isn't even just the deal of buying a car that is the problem. Dealers and salesmen have a way of getting extra money out of you for the "extras".

Many people don't even realize that they purchased the extras until the deal has been closed. And then it's too late.

Salesmen speak their own language, and to know when you are being sold on something that you don't want, you need to know how to speak the same language as the salesmen do. Once you do, you will never again be oversold when you buy a car.

Buying a car doesn't have to be scary and it doesn't have to be the worst experience of your life. Many people are worried when they buy a car because they know that they are likely going to get ripped off.

2006-8-25 Mazda MX5's Iconic Evolution

Mazda MX5's Iconic Evolution
 by: Jenny McLane

Fresh from the wheels up, Mazda MX5 -- the worlds favorite roadster remains true to the lightweight, fun to drive formula that sold more than 700,000 MX-5s worldwide since its introduction in 1989.

The third generation Mazda MX-5 will be presented in October 2005 at the Geneva and Melbourne motor shows. Intensity of spirit possessed by very few sports cars this was what Program Manager Takao Kijima has in mind when creating the all-new Mazda MX-5.

The all-new Mazda MX5 epitomizes the Japanese word Jinba Ittai (rider and horse as one).Jinba Ittai is akin to the bond between a single-seat formula-car pilot and his racer which is the essence of Zoom-Zoom. The rider-and-horse idiom and the effort to create a car universally seen as "lots of fun" served as the focal point around the new Mazda MX5.

Mazda engineers to realise the Jinba Ittai concept defined the five basic requirements: the car would be as compact and as light as possible while meeting global safety requirements; the cockpit would comfortably accommodate two full-stature occupants with no wasted space; the basic layout would continue with the originals front-midship rear-drive configuration with the engine positioned ahead of the driver but behind the front axle for 50:50 weight distribution; all four wheels would be attached by wishbone or multi-link suspension systems to maximize tire performance, road grip and dynamic stability and that a power-plant frame would again provide a solid connection between the engine and rear-mounted differential to sharpen throttle response.

Mazda engineers made every gram count when they very well knew that extra weight would have a dramatically negative influence on driving, cornering, and braking performance. Their "gram strategy" assessed weight in the smallest possible increments and carefully scrutinized weight-trimming opportunities. Other weight-saving tactics were employed as well. Advanced technology was applied where practical to achieve a light and rigid unibody design using materials that offered higher strength and lighter weight.

The MX5 iconic roadster has indeed evolved as evident on its bold new look. The classic "Coke bottle" shape of the contours was removed. The nose and tail are smoothly tapered but now the surfaces wrap smoothly between the wheels without narrowing. The fender arches of the new Mazda MX-5 are notably more pronounced for a substantially wider wheel track dimensions and a more athletic stance. Seventeen-inch wheels help define the corners of the car while there are modest increases in wheelbase (+65 mm), length (+20 mm), width (+40 mm), and height (+20 mm),

With Mazdas new generation sport car architecture the car boasts 22 per cent more flexural stiffness and a 47 per cent increase in torsion rigidity compared with the former Mazda MX-5's.

Moving the engine rearward by 135 mm was a major step towards balancing front-to-rear weight distribution and reducing the yaw moment of inertia. The new car also benefits from ideal 50:50 weight distribution.

What makes this Mazda so special in the eyes and hands of car enthusiasts the world over? The parts that make up every inch of the Mazda MX5 as the iconic roadster are one of the reasons. You can come across super durable replacement parts on websites like http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByVehicle/Mazda. And you can be rest assured that your Mazda MX-5 will be more capable, more comfortable, and more powerful.

2006-8-25 Planning A Car Audio System Installation

Planning A Car Audio System Installation
 by: Will Reece

With such a wide range of components and gadget on the market for car audio systems, the big question is "Where do I start?"

First you must decide what exactly you wish to do. If you are wanting to build a car audio system for a daily driver (the car you drive back and forth to work) with good sounds, but you are not interested in competing, a system can easily be put together for under $1000. However, if you are looking for the all-out bass monster, be prepared to drop in some big bucks into your system.

One of the most important things to keep in mind when building a car audio system is planning. Get an idea of where you are going to place components, subwoofers, amplifiers, and power distribution. A lot of headache can be avoided with the proper planning!!

For the basic system, lets look at some of the components needed.

Let's first start with the head unit (CD player). Obviously you are going to want a nice head unit. If you start with a good quality cd player, and choose to upgrade your sound system in the future, purchase a head unit that will grow with you. Some of the features you may want to keep in mind are:

1. CD changer controls

2. XM / Sirius controls (if you decide to add Satellite radio in the future)

3. Dual RCA outputs (carries signal to the amplifiers)

4. Pause button (important for competing)

5. Detachable face, or other security devices

6. High voltage line driver - this will send the sound signal at a higher voltage to your amplifier/s reducing noise and improving overall sound quality.

After you have chosen your head unit, you will want to make a decision on amplifiers and subwoofers. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. A $30 subwoofer will be as big as a $300 subwoofer, but the capacities of each will differ greatly. Look at the power handling of each subwoofer and decide accordingly. You will want subwoofers will work with your amplifier/s (see compatibility).

You must also keep in mind the available space in your vehicle. Are you willing to give up your entire cargo area? How many subwoofers will fit? Decide on the size. Sizes will vary from 8" up to 18", some are square (Kicker), but most are round. Also keep in mind the resistance (ohms) of the subwoofer and make sure they are compatible with your amplifier/s (see compatibility). The subwoofer decision will also have an effect on the enclosure you decide to build or buy. For the basic system, I would recommend purchasing a pre-fabricated subwoofer enclosure. This will save you a bit of money and headache (especially if you end up building it two or three times!!). Make sure you take accurate measurement of your cargo area before building or buying an enclosure!!

Other components may be needed depending on the type of system you are building and how elaborate you want your sound to be. For the competition vehicle, figure on upgrading your alternator, adding a battery to your system (maybe more), running high quality RCA cables, power cables, ground cables, and speaker cable. You may need to add a capacitor to provide your amplifier with a reservoir of power for bigger hits from the subs. You may need an electronic crossover, an equalizer, replacement factory speakers, an amplifier for your mid-range and tweeters, additional speakers within your vehicle for staging, etc.

2006-8-25 Honda Civic Performance

Honda Civic Performance
 by: Stuart Simpson

When upgrading your Honda Civic, there are three basic things most people would like to do to gain performance, style, and looks. The first is a body kit. Next, most people want to add personalization to the interior. Last, we want to talk about engine modifications. These upgrades you may want to do in any particular order, depending on your personality. I started with my engine. I want my car to be a sleeper. When I add a body kit, then Ill have the muscle to back it up. But it all depends on you. Lets start with the body kit for your Honda Civic.

If you have a pre-1988 Honda Civic, body kits were made, but they are hard to find. There really wasnt much of an internet, so the market was limited to larger cities or Japan. Today, you could search for a used Mugen kit and probably find one on the internet. For later Civics, there are a couple of good choices. Stillen and Greddy offer quality components. When purchasing bargain components, remember you may have to modify the kit for proper alignment. For example, the exhaust may not be exactly in the right spot. Rework time to your Civic may end up costing you as much as a higher quality kit. Ive looked at the kits you can buy a piece at a time due to my budget. Adding the front air dam to keep the car on the ground, side skirts and a rear valance all at once can be a little imposing on the pocketbook.

Interior modifications may not impress anyone as you drive down the street, but if the car looks good on the outside, youll want that Civic sharp on the inside. A torn seat or other imperfections are a good place to start. Most people start with the radio. But if you have a newer Civic or Accord and the radio is already pretty good, what can you do to add your own style? Add some gauges. You can add a pillar mount gauges the A-frame that supports the roof. A company called Lotek makes nice gauge pods.

When you add the gauges, now you have interior style and you can keep better check on your motor instead of relying on a red warning light. The first thing to do is get a free flowing intake. Not only do these look good in the engine compartment, but also they help the car breath better. There are several to choose from, but Im biased towards K & N Products. They fit perfectly and are completely washable. Be warned, you can here the engine breathing when you hit the gas! Its so cool!

I hope these gave you a good starting point on what you can do with your Honda Civic, Accord, or Prelude. Personalizing your car makes it your car, not just another Honda.

2006-8-25 A Simple Car Cleaning Guide

A Simple Car Cleaning Guide
 by: Pete Lance

It looks like new! I cant believe that cars seven years old! Would you like to hear that from your friends? Im sure all of us do, but keeping our car looking like the latest models is tough, even with todays longer-lasting finishes.

However, if we adopt simple techniques such as cleaning out cars regularly and attending minor repairs immediately, the results can be remarkable.

Some car owners think rainwater is the only enemy to their car, but bird droppings, highway bugs, atmospheric pollution and road salt can also ruin the beauty of your car.

Many owners think fighting these ever-diligent adversaries is a daunting task, so they dont usually bother, but truthfully, its easier than they think.

Step 1: Washing

First, spray water gently to thoroughly wet the surface of the vehicle. This light rinse helps to loosen the dirt on the vehicle. Then divide your car into five sections: the top, the hood, the trunk, the right side and the left side. Start from the top, move on to the hood and the trunk, and then concentrate on the right side and the left side. Washing should always be done very gentle such that the dirt will not scratch the body of your car. Re-wet and then rinse each section, finishing in the same order- top, hood, trunk and sides.

Step 2: Polishing

Polishing should only be done a small section at a time. Add an even coating of polish onto a towel, and then apply to the vehicle surface gently in small, even and circular motions. Start at the top and working your way down to the trunk and hood, finally ending with the sides. The polish should be allowed to sit on the paint surfaces for at least five to ten minutes. After this time, remove the residue with a different cotton towel by pressing firmly on the surfaces. The same procedure may be applied to all other four sections.

Step 3: Waxing

Use a soft and clean terry cloth towel to apply wax to a small section of the car. The application of wax to the car can be done similar to how polishing has been carried out. The only difference is you should wait until the wax has dried to a slight haze. If youre really striving, repeat the whole process again, adding a second coat of wax to the vehicle.

And there you have it! Youve removed the dirt and grime

2006-8-25 Buying A New Car

Buying A New Car
 by: Simon Harris

The cost of a new car nowadays equals about what my parents paid for their first home. It's not a purchase to be taken lightly. You want to do everything possible to ensure you get a great deal.

Never rush your decision. If you are completely without transportation, rent a vehicle until you find the right car. When you rush a purchase, you usually end up on the losing end of the deal.

Thanks to the Internet, you can uncover the typical retail cost of a specific make and model. With a little digging, you can find out the wholesale cost as well. This information makes you a powerful negotiator.

You want a win-win situation with the car dealership. They need to make some profit, and you need to feel you paid a fair price. It's fair to negotiate to a price that's $500 above dealer cost or about 20% off the sticker price. So take along your calculator when you shop.

If the only cars on the lot have expensive options you don't care for, you might want to order a car to your specifications. You might wait a bit, but will save money on options you don't need.

Check with the dealership to see if you can return the car if you don't like it. I did this once. The car I purchased ended up less comfortable than my old car, so the next morning I took it back for my check and my trade-in. Many dealerships now offer this option.

You may have heard the advice to shop the last day of the month for better deals. It's true that you might get a better deal from a salesman then.

As far as trade-ins go, do your research here, too. Knowing the value of your old car makes it easier to negotiate a better price for it. Try not to talk about a trade-in possibility until you get a purchase price.

I researched the value of my little red Corolla and found that it was $3500. One dealership offered me $1200 because "they'd have to repaint it". Another dealership offered me $3500 and complimented me on taking such good care of the engine. Stick to your guns when it comes to getting the value of your trade-in, especially if youve had your car serviced regularly.

You may want to advertise your older car and sell it privately. Typically you can get a better price this way, but it may take a little time.

A service contract will likely be brought into the negotiation. The consumer information I've read discourages buying an extra contract on a new car, as it's not likely a problem will occur during the first months of use.

Whatever you do, always read the fine print of any contract before signing it. Ask a bazillion questions about what certain phrases mean if you dont understand something.

Simply because the car just rolled off the factory line doesnt mean you should buy it without asking questions. Keep on your toes during the negotiation process. Theres nothing like the thrill of getting a new car AND creating a win-win situation for you and the dealer.
